Long-Distance Moving to Connecticut
Many people are long distance moving to Connecticut to escape the high cost of living and tax rates in New York. The area just outside of NYC is Fairfield County. This part of Nutmeg State is filled with affluent Metro North commuter towns like Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, Norwalk, Westport, Fairfield, and more. This commuting line which parallels 1-95 extends all the way to New Haven, but appears to a worthwhile trade-off considering the number of people moving state-state from New York (and even Massachusetts)
In Northern Connecticut, Hartford was once the insurance capital of the world. Over the years, many left or divested personnel to other regions. At the same time, the state has it’s own high cost of living, which has prompted people to move from the state for places like Florida, North & South Carolina, and Texas. Connecticut also had a lot of military contractors in Sikorsky Aircraft, Pratt & Whitney, and Electric Boat Shipyard in Groton on the shoreline. Over the years, many companies relocated and moved their businesses to lower cost states like Georgia.
The small New England state has become more of a middle market location between Boston and NYC. However, it does boast one of the nation’s finest elementary, secondary and university educational systems. It also has a large concentration of private prep schools Connecticut is also home to Yale University in New Haven and The Coast Guard Academy in New London. The Nutmeg state is true suburban state, where the majority of people live in towns, which is attractive for raising a family and why families want to long-distance move there.

Things to Do in Connecticut
The state is one of 13 original colonies with roots back to 17th century so there is a lot of American history to be found. Boating is a way of life in Connecticut. In fact, many suggest that the dress code in summertime is boat shoes, polo shirts, and funny-colored pants. On the shoreline, the Mystic Seaport Museum is a must-see. There are several large ships that visitors can explore, as well as a 19th-century coastal village that has been completely recreated. Those interested in history will also want to check out the Mark Twain House in Hartford. The most interesting thing about Connecticut is homegrown residents do not have an accent. Which is ironic given its neighbor states: New York and Massachusetts. When you come to shoreline in the summer, there is plenty of cold water lobster (not lobsta’)
The United States’ longest continuously operating amusement park, Lake Compound is located in Bristol. It opened back in 1846 and has been going strong ever since. Don’t miss out on the Boulder Dash, often called the best wooden rollercoaster in the entire world. Summers are spent on rocky Connecticut Shore, while Winter brings out skiers, which is a big part of the New England states.
