Moving To Tennessee

Long distance moving to Tennessee is an exciting undertaking! A few things to know before you go:

There are 19 rest areas and 16 welcome areas across the state, allowing travelers to stop for a much needed break at a safe and well-maintained rest area when traveling on the major thoroughfares. Taking advantage of these pit stops can help you recharge during a long drive, especially considering many areas of Tennessee have steep grades to contend with.

Your new home has a mild to moderate climate, with a wide range of temperatures that avoid the extreme highs and lows that are present in nearby states. Average temperatures range from 31 degrees to 90 degrees, which provides the full range of seasons to enjoy.

Before hitting the road, be sure to store important documents in a safe and easy to reach place. Documentation that might be needed for major purchases, starting a new job or enrolling in a new school should be kept handy. This might include things like birth certificates, Social Security cards or passports. Important items that are not carried on a person every day should be kept on hand in case they are needed.

Top Cities in Tennessee

The population of the state of Tennessee is 6.7 million people. With a number of large cities scattered throughout the state, the largest by population are:

Nashville, with a population of 667,560, is Tennessee’s largest city. Home of the state capital as well as Vanderbilt University, Nashville offers something for young and old alike. Home to such attractions as the Grand Ol’ Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame, there is something to do nearly everywhere you turn.

Memphis, with a population of 652,236, is a close second to the state capital. Home to Elvis’ Graceland mansion, Memphis is a popular tourist destination. It is also widely regarded as a home for soul and blues music. Memphis boasts a high quality of life, making it an ideal place to live for families.

Knoxville, with its population of 187,347, rounds out the top three largest cities in the state. It boasts a number of Civil War-era sites and offers history buffs an opportunity to peruse a number of historical artifacts and monuments.

These cities are the most populous and are also home to a number of popular attractions. Tourism numbers during the summer months will cause the populations of these cities to be much higher than during non-tourism peak times. This is something to keep in mind as both a resident and a guest.
