CVLU Episode 3: How to Pack & Move Your Fine China

our moving professionals today we’re going to talk about moving fine china [Music] most times

movers will use crumpled paper in the bottom of a box when you’re moving Grandma’s 200 year old

China you want to afford it a little bit more protection and we do that by making

what is called a bumper so instead of just crumbling the paper up and putting it in the

bottom of the Box take a piece of paper Flip It Up and you roll it up loosely you fold it

and you have what is called a bumper it provides a heck of a lot more protection

and cushion for the items going in your box put it in the Box

and you are ready to add China to the Box depending on the age and the fragility of

the China you may even use three pieces but you want to use at least two you put a plate down

you fold it up and you crease the paper you take a second plate you put it on top of the first you

make sure that you have enough paper two sheets to cover the entire plate if it doesn’t cover it

completely move your plate so then you’ve got that one covered completely you put another plate down

and you cover that with two pieces of paper as well again no one’s going to fuss at you

if you use more than two or three pieces of paper we want our customers China to arrive

in the same condition that we picked it up in so you take the fourth plate

you fold and you fold the edge in you fold the edge in and then you roll it up and there

are four plates in here that are very very well protected what you do then is you put it in the

dish pack the bumpers are running this way we’re going to put it in the opposite direction foreign

facing the wall of the box so you’ve got four plates that are very well protected then you’re

going to come the larger plates then you come to the smaller plates very much the same way

two pieces of paper and you crease it I don’t like putting more than

four pieces of Fine China in one pack that’s more than enough you roll it up

it’s very well protected you put this one in with the other

and you fill the bottom of the Box up and the next thing you do that you’ll run into are the bowls

put a little bit of paper inside the bowl foreign

very much the same way you fold the ends up you roll it up and you’ve got very

well protected China another thing that you’re going to deal with is stemware

here’s a typical wine glass the most fragile part of this piece is this stem so we want to

pay particular attention to that when we are wrapping it and we do that take two pieces

of paper and you start rolling it up and you want to fold the paper into where the stem is

so when you get up towards the top just continue to roll it up and the stem which is underneath

here is very well protected you want to make sure that you put this in the dish pack with either the

top or the bottom down it makes no difference we always load these in the dish pack the same way

they would sit on the Shelf the only thing that is not dealt that way is the plates we want to make

sure that we load the plates vertically standing them up there’s a lot more strength with their

standing vertically if you put them flat and you put something heavy on top of it it could break

it once you get to the second layer put another layer of bumpers down don’t use crumpled paper put

another layer of bumpers down when you get towards the top what you want to do is at the top you

put in another layer of bumpers down and then you secure it with tape and your China will arrive as

it should okay folks we talked today about packing grandmother’s China take a little extra care with

it there’s a lot more sentimental value than just the day-to-day dishes thank you for learning with
