CVLU Episode 4: How to Safely Pack Mirrors and Artwork for Moving
Hello Rick here with Colonial Van Lines University, the official training facility
of Colonial Van Lines. Welcome to our Channel where we provide specialized
training for our moving professionals. Today, we are going to discuss boxing a piece of art!
Well, here’s our piece of artwork that we are going to protect today.
First thing you do, you put it face down on a piece of brown paper, you fold
one side in,
creasing the edge, you fold the other side in,
creasing the edge
you fold the top down
use a little bit of tape to hold that in place
then you fold the top up
so essentially you have protected
the piece of art
so this is the same way that you can protect a smaller mirror: you use a brown piece of paper
you protect it in the same way. This is a mirror pack. This is what we can build a box with to
protect artwork or mirrors or anything that is flat, a piece of marble or something like that
basically what you do is you create corners fold this down bring that in take your tape
secure the flaps
sometimes you can make a small box with two pieces
you put the piece of artwork, the TV or whatever, inside and you put them together and as
you can see you have a box that protects it in this instance we’re going to need four
pieces. You could use as many as six eight however many you need to create a large box
so I put my fourth piece together. After I got my fourth piece together, I’ll
take a little bit of paper after putting the two sections together
crumple it a little bit, put it down into the box
so that the piece of artwork or the mirror or the television or whatever it may be
sits on a cushion of paper. So you take the piece
put it inside centering as best you can
you bring the pieces together. You take the other two pieces
put them together
and you put some protective paper in the top
and you also put a little bit on the sides
so that way you won’t have any damage from it moving laterally
you take this
and put it over the top, bring it down tight, bringing it together
and you have a box that is protecting your artwork. You tape the flaps together, you go
around a couple of times, and you’ve got a protective piece of artwork.
Today we talked about using the mirror pack, a very versatile piece of box that you can use for either
mirrors, for artwork, for televisions, for marble – wherever you need a good flat box
to protect a piece of our customers belongings. So thank you for learning
with Colonial Van Lines today. Stay tuned for many more training videos coming very soon!
