Edmond

Edmond is a suburb of Oklahoma City with a population of 89,769. Thought of by its residents as a great place to live in Oklahoma, this city is right in Oklahoma County. This city does have somewhat of a suburban feel, and many residents own their homes. In Edmond, there are a lot of parks, and its public schools are highly rated.

Jenks

Jenks, in Tulsa County, is a suburb of Tulsa with a population of 20,836. One of the fastest-growing cities in the state, this vibrant city is known for its downtown shop area, arts and antique districts and the annual Freedom Fest food event, which see visitors from all over the county.

Bixby

Bixby, with a population of 24,939, spans the counties of Wagoner and Tulsa. Known as the “The Garden Spot of Oklahoma,” this city has a rich history of agriculture. With great parks and annual events such as the Bixby BBQ & Music Festival, many families happily call Bixby home.

Norman

Norman, in Cleveland County, has a population of 119,820 and is known for being a hub of scientific endeavors. Norman is in Cleveland County and is the third-largest city in the state. This area has a lot of coffee shops and parks and is home to the University of Oklahoma. 

Goldsby

The Oklahoma City suburb of Goldsby has a population of 2,100 and is in McClain County. Living in Goldsby offers residents a rural feel and most residents own their homes. Located in the South Central region of the United States, Oklahoma is bordered by New Mexico on the west, Arkansas on the east, Kansas on the north, Texas on the south, and Colorado on the northwest. Oklahoma is also called as “The Sooner State: in reference to non-Native settlers who staked land claims before the official settlement of western Oklahoma Territory and the Indian Appropriations Act of 1889. 

This state is known for its production of agricultural products, natural gas and oil, with an economic base of biotechnology, aviation, energy and telecommunications. Close to two-thirds of the state’s population live in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, its primary economic anchors. 

Most of Oklahoma is part of the Great Plains, with forests, mesas, prairies and mountain ranges. There over 25 Native American languages spoken here, making the state rank third behind Alaska and California. This state was historically a cattle drive route, a settler destination and a territory sanctioned for Native Americans by the United States government.

In March, those who are curious about the mysterious Bigfoot can head to the Oklahoma Bigfoot Symposium. Located in Stilwell and managed by the Mid-America Bigfoot Research Center, guests can join researchers as they explore one of the most popular sighting areas for the creature, and there are even activities just for the kids.

Made In Oklahoma Festival & Car Show (April)

Head to Seminole in April to catch the Made In Oklahoma Festival & Car Show. There’s crafts, wine, food and more on display, and it’s grown and made in the state. Local artists sell their wares here, and visitors can head up to Main Street to sample area food. Naturally, there’s also a car show that brings in enthusiasts from all over. The wine-tasting event here is particularly popular, as well as the spaghetti dinner.

Rose Rock Music Festival (May)

Held in downtown Noble, the Rose Rock Music Festival has things to offer visitors of all ages. There’s a carnival with rides and food, a poker run, a car shore and more. Art and craft booths are aplenty here, and there’s an idol contest you can visit to see who walks away with the prize. On Saturday, there’s a grand parade, and local bands play live music over the three days of the event.

Red Earth Native American Cultural Festival (June)

In June, take in over 1,000 Native American dancers and artists at Oklahoma City’s Red Earth Festival. For over the court of three days, the city will be a center of Native American culture and art as over 30,000 people come together to celebrate. The opening of this festival is a unique parade, and visitors will be able to purchase crafts and products from Native American artisans.

Firelake Firelight Balloon Festival (August)

Hot air balloons will launch on an explosion of bright colors at the Firelake Firelight Balloon Festival, held in Shawnee in August. There’s twenty hot air balloons on site at the event and available for rides, but they are popular, so reservations in advance are recommended. If you have an RV, you can rent a spot in advance and see the show from the comfort of your vehicle. Be sure to check out the balloon glows, which delight all at night. Children can take a swing at the mini golf setup and adults can sample local cuisine at the food trucks.
