Colonial Van Lines, headquartered in South Florida, is proud to be partnered with Move For Hunger, a non-profit that provides hunger relief by delivering unwanted non-perishables to food banks via relocation companies like ours.
A Good Cause
Data from the UN’s World Food Program claims that one in nine people in the US goes to bed hungry every night. Hunger is a huge problem everywhere in the country, in fact, since over 42 million Americans struggle to find their next meal. Move For Hunger is changing this by teaming up with relocation companies to pick up unwanted, non-perishable food items from moving households. After all, a lot of people throw out their unwanted belongings come moving day. Move For Hunger does its part by collecting these food items and delivering them to local families in need.
The non-profit is currently working with over 1,000 relocation companies in the US and Canada. It has delivered more than 10,000,000 lbs. of food to food banks across the country. The food donations account for more than 8,000,000 meals for those in need. With this in mind, we are truly grateful for the opportunity to utilize our resources to contribute to our community in an impactful way.

How Move For Hunger Works
Families and businesses that are relocating can set aside their unopened, non-perishable items for donation to Colonial Van Lines who will deliver the items to a local shelter in need, at the direction of Move For Hunger™. Crew members from the 501(c)3 non-profit organization will sort through, pack-up and deliver these goods to local food pantries. Items are then distributed to families in need within the local community.
How It All Started
While working in his family’s moving company, Founder, Adam Lowy identified an opportunity to salvage food that moving families typically toss before relocation, and devised a system to get it into the hands of those in need. Since 2009, Move For Hunger has collected over 10 million pounds of non-perishable food items resulting in over 8 million meals for the hungry.
