A peek into the day-to-day life of a Colonial mover
6:00 a.m.
The alarm goes off. The coffee is made. There’s no need to try to squeeze in a workout, this job is a workout. A cup of joe is drunk, and a second is poured into a to-go cup. Fuel (caffeine) is a necessity in this line of work. Typically, we’ll get ready and eat our breakfast on the road.
7:00 a.m.
Arrive at Colonial Van Lines and assemble the moving team. We’ll confirm details of the move with management, and double check that we have all the essential supplies and tools on hand and that the truck is in good working order. Then, it’s off to the races.
8:00 a.m.
Arrive at customer’s home. At this point, we’ll meet our customer(s) and talk with them about how we can help make their moving day easier, answering any questions they might have. Then, we’ll conduct a walk through together, going over which items need to be moved/packed.
8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Now it’s time to pack and load the truck. This part requires more than just strong arms and a large truck bed. To correctly and efficiently pack and load a moving truck requires planning, teamwork, responsibility and meticulous attention to detail.
As a mover, it’s our job to not just move someone’s “stuff” but to safely relocate their treasured heirlooms and prized possessions. We take pride in helping our customers get where they’re going with the items that mean something to them fully intact.
4:30 p.m.
After a full day of packing and loading, it’s time to head to our customer’s new home. This home might be just a few hours away, or it could be an overnight trip. This part of our job might sound unimaginable for those used to working a 9-5 schedule, but we love the unpredictability and autonomy that this job allows us. Variety is the spice of a Colonial Van Line mover’s life.
Arrival Time Varies
Once we get to our destination, it’s time to unload the truck. if our customers opted for a full-service move, we may be reassembling furniture, too.
When the truck is unloaded and our customers are happy with the work we’ve done, we can bid them adieu. Another successful move on the books. We drive away from their home feeling proud to be able to help people through their major life transitions.
